Frequently asked questions

Answers to what you ask most often

The answers are general in nature and do not replace a check-up. For advice tailored to you, get in touch with the clinic.

Is tooth extraction painful?

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain during it, only pressure. Once the anaesthesia wears off, tenderness is possible, which is eased with the recommended therapy.

What is an impacted tooth and why is it removed?

It is a tooth that could not fully erupt and has remained partly or completely stuck in the bone or gum, most often a wisdom tooth. It is removed when it causes pain, inflammation, pressure on neighbouring teeth or other problems.

What does recovery look like?

In the first few days mild swelling and tenderness are normal. You will receive instructions: avoid vigorous rinsing on the first day, hot and hard food and smoking, and keep up your hygiene. Most people recover within a few days, but it depends on the procedure.

When should I call the clinic after the procedure?

If the pain gets worse instead of easing, if you have a raised temperature, heavy bleeding that does not stop, or swelling that is spreading, contact us immediately.

Can I go to work after the procedure?

It depends on the type of procedure. After a simple extraction many people return to their duties the very next day, while after more complex procedures rest is recommended. You get the recommendation after the procedure.

What are a sinus lift and bone augmentation?

They are surgical preparations for when there is not enough bone for an implant. A sinus lift raises the floor of the sinus and adds bone in the upper jaw, while augmentation builds up the ridge of the jaw. They are done before implant placement or together with it, as needed.
