Frequently asked questions
Answers to what you ask most often
The answers are general in nature and do not replace a check-up. For advice tailored to you, get in touch with the clinic.
What are metal-free crowns?
They are crowns made of zirconia ceramic, without a metal base. They look natural and are well tolerated, and they have no metal edge that could show at the gum line.
How long does the procedure take?
Usually five working days and two visits. At the first, the tooth is prepared, a digital impression is taken and a temporary crown is placed, and at the second the final crown is cemented.
Is tooth preparation painful?
Preparation is done under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain. Temporary sensitivity is possible afterwards.
When is a crown needed?
When a tooth is damaged by decay, broken or badly worn, after root canal treatment, or when you want to improve its shape and appearance. Crowns can also support a bridge.
How long do crowns last?
With good hygiene and regular check-ups they can last many years. Durability also depends on habits, for example grinding the teeth or biting hard objects.
How are crowns maintained?
Like natural teeth: by brushing, cleaning between the teeth and regular check-ups. It is especially important to clean the edge along the gum.
